Convert your blood glucose readings to estimated A1C percentage
Use this calculator to estimate your A1C percentage based on your average blood glucose levels. A1C provides a picture of your average blood glucose control over the past 2-3 months.
Note: This calculator provides an estimated A1C value based on the ADAG (A1C-Derived Average Glucose) formula. For accurate A1C measurement, consult your healthcare provider for a laboratory test.
The relationship between average blood glucose (eAG) and A1C is calculated using the following formula:
A1C = (46.7 + average glucose) / 28.7
This formula was derived from the ADAG study and is recognized by the American Diabetes Association. Here's what the numbers mean:
A1C % | Estimated Average Glucose (mg/dL) | Interpretation |
---|---|---|
Below 5.7 | Below 117 | Normal |
5.7 - 6.4 | 117 - 137 | Prediabetes |
6.5 or above | 140 or above | Diabetes |
Your A1C test result reflects your average blood sugar level for the past two to three months. Specifically, the A1C test measures what percentage of your hemoglobin is coated with sugar (glycated hemoglobin).
Important: While this calculator provides useful estimates, it cannot replace professional medical advice. Always consult with your healthcare provider about your blood sugar management.
For quick reference, here's a conversion chart showing how various average glucose levels translate to A1C percentages:

150 | 6.3 |
175 | 6.9 |
200 | 7.5 |
225 | 8.1 |
250 | 8.7 |
275 | 9.3 |
